(Three gold bangles found on Colyton Raleigh Moor, 1986)
The Pleiades, bejewellèd scorn,
Watch Halley’s Comet come and go
So many times,
So many times …
Here in the mud and stones we lie,
Cast silent witness to the sky,
And wait for you.
We clasped the white of Celtic limbs
And kissed the auburn Celtic hair
So long ago,
So long ago.
Three magic bangles for your arm
To shield you from earth’s humped up harm –
We wait for you.
Harken the marching feet of men,
Harken the plover’s golden call
Across the moor,
The vacant moor.
Green Celtic eyes of faith and lust,
Green wandering stars of timeless dust,
We wait for you.
The gleaming gorse shines back our gold
From darkest heart of barbèd gloom.
Where have you gone?
Where have you gone?
Three thousand years of waiting here –
Lost in slow time each helpless year.
We wait for you.
